Remember when there were long queues for booking train tickets? If you are from Gen Z, you probably won’t! Technology has made it so easy for us to shop, buy and book anything on a click. Ever wondered about those sitting behind those windows booking the tickets? How did they adapt? Well, good news is that, they’re probably behind a computer screen right now resolving queries of their clients online and ensuring a smooth interface on the website! If they can learn operating a new ‘machine’ to stay relevant in their jobs, why can’t you dear Gen Z? Computers were a new thing back then, but today imagining a life without screens is next to impossible. We live in a world where technology advances with each passing minute! How would you ensure what you learnt today will stay relevant tomorrow? Tech or non-tech background, getting evolved with technology is required if you wish to stay relevant in the present! Or you’ll have to wait for your grandchild to teach you how to use that ‘machine’.
A blog by Satish Kumar on ‘FutureSkills in Digital Era’, explains what the learners – both students and professionals face in terms of opportunities and challenges when learning content online due to a lack of adequate academic infrastructure. The blog, in fact, mentions that:
“Future employees would no longer want to wait for the university to offer the right courses… They want to be able to get information online when they need it, at any place and any time. They are keen to learn about new technologies, while very few do register for such courses, most of them are not sure which course to register for on online… Institutions lack in academic infrastructure, guidance, industry and practical exposure, foundation knowledge on new technologies, proper assessment certification, etc.”
This makes clear the prevalence of many loopholes in our system, with 87% of the respondents feeling that foundation courses on new technologies in their undergraduate courses necessary. The gap between industry and academia proves to be the root cause of the underprepared workforce that is set to enter the world of future technologies, without adequate skills.
