Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Social Media
- Artificial Intelligence
- Generative AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a dream; it’s here to change our world. In fact, it has already impacted our world and blended in with our day-to-day lives in a way that we just can’t begin to unravel.
According to a survey, by 2023, the involvement of AI in social media will be around $ 2.2 billion, up from $ 0.6 billion in 2018. These numbers prove that AI’s growing role in Social Media is indisputable.
AI works because it processes huge amount of data with smart algorithms and creates powerful insights from it. Social media platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn have been using AI powered algorithms to provide customized feeds to users and hence a better user experience. Did you know that the face filters on Snapchat or Instagram, two of the leading social media platforms, or the job recommendations on LinkedIn features are just a few examples of what AI and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms make possible?
AI works by combining a huge amount of data with fast, iterative processing and smart algorithms
If we take the case of Instagram or Facebook– these platforms use ML-powered algorithms to collect user choices and recommend similar types of posts and advertisements. When you use Facebook it gathers your interest areas, the videos, images, or posts related to the certain topic you read or watch, and based on that analysis, it recommends the posts or areas that interest you and keeps on offering content endlessly on scrolling. Recommendation algorithms filter people who behave like you online and recommend to you what people with footprints like you are seeing. Basically, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning turn a difficult-looking task into child’s play.
Video recognition has gained popularity in various fields around the world over the past ten years. In early 2010, Facebook emerged as one of the first tech companies to implement Facial Recognition to identify people in photos in which they haven’t been tagged. But as of today, facial recognition technology has evolved so much that they can recognize facial emotions as well.
It is fascinating to see tools like Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Google Translate, that can communicate, engage with humans, and react to various topics. This has been made possible with AI Technology of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP). NLP is a process through which machines can understand human language.
Another one of the algorithms used in social media platforms is text-deciphering. Text-deciphering is an encryption method. Facebook has successfully been using a Deep Learning engine called Deep-text, to filter the data available through comments and various posts available on Facebook and Instagram.
LinkedIn uses machine learning algorithms to offer suggestions on people one might like to connect with, job recommendations, serving specific content in feed, help advertisers target a select audience, and conversion tracking.
AI-powered technologies will play an increasingly critical role in turning data into readily available, actionable information to fuel this new era.

About the Future Skills PRIME Programme
Under the Future Skills PRIME (Programme for Re-skilling/ Up-skilling of IT Manpower for Employability) Program, a joint venture between MEITY and NASSCOM, various C-DAC centers are involved as the Lead Resource Centre for institutionalizing blended learning mechanisms in specific emerging technologies. C-DAC Pune has been entrusted with the responsibility of a Lead Resource Centre for Artificial Intelligence Technology.
Courses run under FS Prime Program are as below:
Bridge courses
These courses are to create awareness of Data Science, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning Tools & techniques among participants so that they can recommend and apply these technologies in real life and at their workplaces. The course is meant for graduates, entrepreneurs, interns, fresh recruits, IT professionals, non-IT professionals working in the IT industry, ex-employees, and faculty members.

Training of Government officials (GOT)
Under this program Government officials are trained on emerging technologies, which will help them work more effectively, like creating new methods for documentation. Soon this would help officials to work more efficiently on new government & IT projects.
Training of Trainers (TTT)
This course presents an overview of Artificial Intelligence, principles, and approaches with which faculty can enhance their knowledge in the area of AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, and its application. After completion of the course, Faculty will be able to acquire in-depth knowledge and skills about AI.
