What can you learn from the reskilling narrative of CGI?
The Journey of CGI: A passage from NASSCOM Reskilling Series exhibits the inspiring story of an organization’s quintessential vision to reskill its workforce in emerging technologies, which are set to dominate the future of work.
Owing to the pandemic, from consumer demand to business demand, a lot has been changed in the organizational ecosystem. The acceleration in digital transformation initiatives have kept organizations race to keep the operations running. IT Services vendors like CGI have consequently shifted their focus to address challenges related to remote connectivity and collaboration, while ensuring business continuity, building organizational resilience, and being more adaptable. Now more than ever, digital technologies are the core in ensuring business continuity, with Cloud and AI being the forerunners.
Through the Reskilling Series, NASSCOM has explored how CGI, a front runner in the IT and business consulting services market, has worked to support the professional development of its workforce in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region to provide clients with the “best of the best” of talent and expertise.
The first step towards taking up reskilling as an initiative for any organization is to understand WHY there is a need for reskilling. NASSCOM’s Reskilling Series observed that, “CGI realised the need to reskill their employees to ensure requisite skills for designing, building, and implementing innovative solutions using digital technologies to drive value for its clients”. To equip its employees in emerging technologies in partnership with NASSCOM and NASSCOM FutureSkills, they rolled out their reskilling initiative to all the employees in the APAC region with a participation rate of over 95%.
In this effort, CGI evaluated NASSCOM FutureSkills platform on the basis of its SME curated content, competency standards and industry-defined curriculum, and found that the courses with SSC NASSCOM assessments and certifications aligned with CGI’s goals in the APAC region for its reskilling/upskilling journey and supported its top priorities. Further, in association with NASSCOM Future Skills, CGI launched a digital skills campaign called “Accelerate: Digital 101 Awareness”. The success of this initiative lies at the ‘ABCD’ approach adopted by CGI, which can be defined as AGILE.BALANCE.CURATE.DIFFERENTIATE. Know more about the journey of CGI and ABCD approach here.
The key takeaway from this narrative that stands out is the willingness of an organization to take efforts to reskill its workforce in the face of challenges and uncertainties, the most significant one being disruptions due to emerging technologies. The success of CGI’s reskilling initiative is aspirational and enlightens how organizations should work to create continuous learning opportunities for the success of both their business and employees.
This is time when organizations need to look at continuous learning and development as a key to unlock the future endeavours which are still hiding behind the future technologies. Learning basics of emerging technologies is crucial for everyone regardless of the fact that they belong to a tech or a non-tech background. A basic level of digital fluency is a need of the hour as we advance digitally with each passing minute. It’s time to build a workforce ready to battle tech disruptions!
